Dear Safarists,
People travel and choose ways to do that. Travels are many kinds: One is to enjoy the landscape and keep looking at it and smell it and have its lights and winds on your skin until it sinks in. Some other 'moods' of travelling is to feel you like to conquer one of its challenges. Like a mountain standing high and aloof, so you decided that you want to be on top of it.
1-The Nature Absorbption needs to learn a lot about dynamics and substances from which this Nature is made up. landforms science (geomorphology), anthropology, geography, etc. We've been doing that using maps and photos and lots of understanding of this Universe and will always keep this going here and encourage each other to exchange more of it.
2-The Nature Conquering needs to learn logistics and ways to treat living or mechanical vehicles (camels and 4x4s) in addition a lot about your own survival methods.
Conquering requires to learn:
1. your cars limits in design (don't tilt the car until it overturns)
2. your environments limits beyond which it irreversibly changes
you could have simply crossed it on foot, but you show off by equipping your car to cross it too. Not all good if youre scaring people near farms or crushing a weak beautiful rock that hikers like.
What you need to know before you go Conquer:
-won't disturb a beautiful place for walkers or threaten their safety
-Safe: learn how 4x4s can handle the terrain you want to conquer (different from one terrain to another)
-Safe: learn how 4x4s could be modified to better conquer the terrain you want to conquer
Do you know what is CG and do you have diagrams to show why it should be as low as possible in 4x4s?
Salaam,
Mohamed Mabrouk
I might sound like a crazy dreamer but.. only crazy dreamers can come up with ideas like the Egyptian pyramids!

Re: Two Reasons for Travelling: Nature and Conquering
Dear Mabrouk,
Thank you for your advice about not disturbing the environment and
the local communities. Also safety IS an important factor in travel
planning.
There's also another reason for us traveling. Many of us have
experienced it and are strongly driven by it, am sure I am not
saying anything new here :)
It's the opening of your senses. All of them physically and
spiritually.
I have been talking about this with friends and would like to share
with you what they said:
One of them referred to:
The Pilgrimage: He said the amount of new experience your go through
when traveling is amazing. And all your senses are open and you
become more sensitive to the physical and spiritual beauty in this
world. In all religions, pilgrimage, strips people from their
material comforts, or better said, breaks the comfort zone, enabling
them to finally tune in to the other world, and to God..
Another friend, who also made the same point about vulnerability
added that: most prophets (I do not want to say all, cuz I do not
know) received their first revelations from god when they where
traveling, or at least in nature, away from home and family. Isn't
this worth reflecting upon?
Travel for starters can very well break your comfort zone, ur not
anymore in your comfortable house, and family to which you are used
to. You have to cope with the new environment.
When away from material and emotional support, you become more
vulnerable as a person and exactly this vulnerability makes you
receptive of new realms, whatever they are.
It's just like someone who is hungry and can eat anything. Not like
someone who is not hungry and insists on having only the food that
he likes/is used to, hence missing out on the chance of tasting
something different, something new, that would do well to his body.
This new food my add something or cancel out the bad effect of
something else in the body, or give you immunity you didn't acquire
b4 cuz its new. In any case, this new food is a step towards more
balance within you..
So, this detachment from the usual comforts, this vulnerability and
openness to the world, makes you more able to receive
Sometimes, travel can be compared to defragmenting a hard disk, you
don't change the content of the disk, but you re-arrange the data.
After the process is done, retaining the same data only in a
different order, bits and pieces you already had fall in their right
place making your pc more efficient, and you free more space for new
data.
Let's keep on traveling, and receiving more data, defragmenting what
already have, putting bits and pieces in their right places, and
freeing fresh disk space for something new, for growth...
Cheers,
n.
