Hello all, it has been a while I know.. a lot is happening and I am still adjusting. Ajwaad is now three months and ten days old. quiet a grown baby:) but his needs are increasing. I wanted to participate and say many things during this long time but didn't succeed, so I'll put some of them together in one msg. first of all I would like to congratulate another friend and colleauge of ours who followed me and delivered a handsome baby boy less than a month ago. It is Dr Haseena Lockhat. Her baby is named Ayman, which means blessed. I wish her and her baby all the best. I found out also that in the UK you have an undrestanding system for mothers' needs that is envied by ME, your maternity leaf extends to six months ( ours is only two months). I wished also to congratulate Haseena on her first published book: 'Female Genital Mutilation: Treating the Tears' , by Middlesex Univ. Press few months ago. It is an intersting book that needs a hard heart to read, very disturbing. From there I move to the conference sponsored by Amnesty International last Jan or Feb in Bahrain about Women's Violence in the Gulf. I would like to ask AlBaqer, our friend in the list to update us on what happened and the outcome of that important conf. I heard that there were many Saudi women participating and some powerful inputs. so let us know. I shall leave it here. ps. sorry for the format of my msg, I have a problem with my computer. my usual luck I guess:), the 'enter' key does not work, and waiting for backing up my files, some of which need this key, then I can send it for repair.. a vicious cercle. Salam, Hatoon ps2. attached is the link to an interview appeared in the Guardian during the busy time of municipal elections' story. http://www.guardian.co.uk/weekend/story/0,,1404841,00.html

Dear All,

This time the report focuses Freedom and good governance, from the
core team is Dr Abdul Wahab Al Effendi, and Albaqir our former
colleague June Ray is coordinator - for those who do not know June
was former director of the MENA program in Amnesty.

Hi Hatoon, Najla and everybody,
Sorry for being so quiet in the last month or so. I have been in a mission
to Tunisia for 2 weeks, and came back to face a huge backlog of work plus
too many tide deadlines. I will come back to you as soon as I can get my
breath back.
Najla, please call or send me your number to arrange for lunch. I will
be going in a sabbatical starting 1/10/05, to the USA.
Stay well.
