Dear SS,

Does anyone know or has experience --- if a European laptop (made in Ireland ) can work easily in the States ?? some ppl are saying its not working very well even with the adaptor.. any experience ??

-Can the International Driving License - which we issue from Egypt- work in the States?? Or issuing a new driving license according to their rules is needed??

-What is the good kind of portable Hard drive, with reasonable prices??

Thanks in advance for your support ??

I am answering only the last 2 questions:
2) in the driving lic. there is a list of countries, and take care because it's valid for only one year and when u r issuing it, u should have ur local driving lic valid for one year at least.
3) Western Digital, Toshiba, imation, and seagate. go to radio shack, they have reliable warranty.

Hi SohaI am using an Irish made Dell laptop. The voltage rating on the charger is 100 - 240 volts. Most laptop chargers are similarly rated and there should be no issue using your laptop in the US. Check the voltage input rating at the back of your laptop charger to make sure.Have a nice tripAmr Mourad

Soha,

I happen to live in the US, so the following are my answers based on my
experience.

1- European laptops work fine. You will need to buy a plug adapter from
RadioShack here that would allow your plug to fit the wall outlets (it?s
pretty cheap to buy that adapter I think it?s a couple of bucks max).

2- Your International drivers license would work here. If you are
visiting the US for a short while you would not need (and are probably not
able to) get a US license. Car rental companies accept your international
driver?s license without a problem. If you are staying for a period longer
than 9 months and have the right type of visa you will need a US license (in
some states you are allowed even a longer period of time without needing a
US license). The US license needs you to apply for a Social Security
number, which takes a bit of time, so you still will have to drive with your
international license for a bit.

3- I like my Western Digital Passport hard-drive. It?s ultra-portable,
and very reliable. Wait till you get to the US to buy one of those. These
things are cheaper here in my opinion.

Best regards,

Amr

It was also a problem in the old days, to use appliances with different altrnating current frequency (60 Hz for USA & 50 for others), but recent adaptors have the range of both.
