Dear Fellow Members,

I felt privileged to attend Barry Kemp's lecture last
Wednesday and found the man himself to be "very
approachable" in the sense that you could ask him any
question and receive an honest answer and not feel
intimidated. He is very down-to earth in his approach
to his chosen subject and I for one would welcome
making a site visit to see him at work. What I
gained? A more flexible idea of religion in that
period... before I thought it was more restrictive.
Thank you Barry, and thank you Mohamed for organizing
the event. I was only sorry that I could not join
everyone after to talk further.

I would have written this e-mail on Thursday but I
visited a friend... only to find that her son was in
Dahab during the attack and was very lucky not to be
one of the dead or injured. It was one of her
comments that struck me most and therefore I am
passing it on. My friend said that her son did the
right thing in contacting home immediately to tell
them he was OK. After that he helped where he could.

Relaying the information that "you are safe" is not
something everyone does when finding themselves in a
situation like that, whether through natural disaster,
or in this case a terrorist attack. They are usually
either in shock, or doing their best to help out. We
live though in a time though when every event is
newsworthy and brought to the TV, radio, internet, or
by tel. in a very brief time of happening. The fears
and anxieties of family or close friends on hearing
the news, knowing that someone they feel deeply for is
in that particular place would be great.

Wishing everyone safe and happy journeys.

Very best wishes,

Yvonne
