Dear All,

I have been to the play at Sawi of 3adeela, written by Nihad Gad, and performed by a young lady. The play revolves around the wife that aspires to a more hard working husband to afford her a better life. The setting is a small appartment, a living room in which the husband and wife sleep, a bedroom for two children (we only see the living room). The husband is a lawyer who joins a political party and spends his days writing articles in newspapers for a small EGP 50/article. He says he lives for a cause.

The act is all performed by the wife, who goes through her chain of thought, while the husband lies asleep on the sofa, snoring every now and then. As she does the housework, she thinks of her life, then goes back and forth trying to wake him up, yet to no avail. She wonders of a more resourceful husband, or if she had married someone else, or the tight life of her kids, etc...

Then the phone rings. She is informed that her husband had won his law suit against the state. Then it rings again and she is told he has become the head of party and is now a member pf parliament... She is thrilled, runs back and forth to wake her husband and all sorts of day dreams fill her head again, of wealth, of connections, etc....

Near the time when the car has to pass by pick her husband up for his new post, she runs to wake him up again, but he has stopped snoring, turning...or breathing... Her husband died.. She screams asking him to live, to support her in life and she needs no other luxury, but too late...he is gone.

Moral of the story: We live life in struggles and aspirations, when our needs in life are very simple. We travel, we see houses and temples abandoned, that once were roaming with life... Where did it all go? Quran mentions BARR "telk beyoutehem lam toskan men ba3dehem" SAA (behold their houses unoccupied after them). Let's take wisdom from what we see and not pass by unheedingly.....

Attendees at the play were Samir Sarhan, the late writer's husband and actress Soheir El Morshedy... The audience was very happy to attend this play, very well acted and precise.

Hope to see you at other plays at Sawy....

Salam,

Sahar
