Mido Basha,

I remember few years ago when you first introduced me to the terms
CommandTrac and SelecTrac T-cases (fetes elgharz) of Jeep. You and
Abbas might like to introduce us Cherokee and Wrangler owners to
differences.

I have to say that although my Wrangler's CommandTrac (no central
diff) is very powerful in the desert as you mentioned, I feel that it
wears my drivetrain on-road. Do you think front-wheels hub locks could
solve that?

And why Toyota turns the table? :)

well i dont necessarily think that wranglers wear their drivetrain
on road but then again i have never owned a wrangler before. front
wheels manual hub locks will definitely prolong the life of your
front end and they are not expensive to buy. however i am not sure
if the wrangler front wheel assembly can accomodate a hub lock.
abbas should know better, he worships these cars for some unknown
reason and knows a shit load about them. I personnally have
converted to toyotas with no hope for reformation or rehabilitation.
I am attaching a message i wrote some time ago to another list to
explain the source behind my unshakeable faith...

"I have owned and driven the following at various times and for
various periods: a 4 cylinder cherokee, a 6 cylinder cherokee, a V8
defender 90, a land cruiser FJ70, and finally a land cruiser HDJ80
(diesel VX) until i die.
From this alone , i can tell you first hand that:

1-land rovers are incredibly slow beasts, break all the time, very
difficult to tune properly, even more difficult to get spare parts
but at the end of the day, they have travelled further than any car
ever has and will give you more torque than any car ever will.

2-jeeps but specifically cherokees are lighter, faster and have a
very receptive engine. they are comfortable in the city and very
driveable in tight streets. However suspension in the egyptian
models is crap and their load carrying capacity in general is
limited. Not to mention the crank sensor, overheating, bobeena
issues of the cherokee. so thank god there is only one jeep. we
could not live with two.

3-this leaves us with the king of kings or the queen of queens
depending on the sex of your car. since the japanese were beaten in
the world war, they learned their mistakes from their enemies and
gave us the best of both worlds or should i say all worlds. their
torque is renowned while giving you a decent speed, they carry
whatever load you give them, strong engines available, reliability
undeniable, spare parts at the grocery store and can be installed by
the cashier. what can i say? they are simply better. the only
downfall is that you pay for what you get. they are more expensive.

Your car. Your choice."

salam,
mido

"so thank god there is only one jeep. we

And yes... for some occult reason ...I worship these cars... I need to go to
rehab I guess...
Toyotas are indeed just "more" in every aspect... if nothing else more
..much more reliable & lower maintenance. By the time you need to service a
toyota...you'd have spent your retirement fund on the Jeep. LOL. One day...

Wranglers & Cherokees share the same front differential...the Dana 30.
No they do not wear their front ends on paved roads... rarely you hear about
a busted front diff.
Having locking front wheel hubs will obiously, as you said, prolong their
life... & lower your fuel consumption.
And, Yes, there are conversion kits for that. The best are made by WARN.

See you in rehab :-))
