a specific to North America but does offer some
insight into how communities are organizing for social
change.

The first North American Social Forum organizers
invite you to
participate in the planning process for this truly
historic event, to
be held in the Lower Mainland August 15 - 22nd, 2003.
A planning
meeting will be held on January 11, 2003 from 1pm to
4pm at Trout
Lake Community Centre, 3350 Victoria Drive (at 19th
Ave) Vancouver.
The World Social Forum believes that civil society
must move beyond
protesting and criticizing current social and economic
systems
towards engaging people in the creation of
alternatives. The North
American Social Forum is dedicated to engaging people
in finding
local and global solutions in the spirit of
participatory democracy.
People from Mexico, the United States, and Canada have
a unique
opportunity to join with us and share their ideas and
energy towards
the creation of a better world.
****Please think about volunteering for one of the
organizing
committees
putting the North American Social Forum together:
Logistics, Program,
Finance, Communications, and Local Events. Come, bring
some goodies
or juice to share, we will make coffee and tea.
Meeting date: January 11, 2003 - 1 pm to 4 pm.
At: Trout Lake Community Centre, 3350 Victoria Drive
(at 19th Ave),
Vancouver.
How to get there: Public transit access via Bus #20.
Get off at the
traffic light at Victoria on the Victoria Diversion
(near
Commercial), then walk one block north (towards the
mountains).
Alternatively, bus 9, 99 and 2 skytrains; get off at
Broadway and
Commercial, walk east on Broadway to Victoria Drive (1
block) turn
right and walk south (10 blocks) to the Centre. Also
accessible from
Nanaimo skytrain station: walk west, following tracks,
to Victoria
Diversion (7 - 8 blocks). North one block on Victoria
to 19th Avenue.
(The Centre is just 1/2 block further North.)
Driving: parking in lot at north side of Trout Lake
Community Centre.
