General description:

The MNSED Finance and Private Sector Development Unit (MNSFP) assists governments in Middle East and North African (MENA) countries to:

• Strengthen the institutional foundations for effective financial, product and factor markets

• Promote open and competitive markets for products, inputs and finance

• Improve service delivery and social safety nets through public-private partnerships

• Improve the functioning of banks in financial intermediation and build or strengthen capital markets and other financial servicesThis work helps to create broader opportunity for entrepreneurship, employment and growth.Duties and Accountabilities

• Conducting research on the overall finance and private sector development work in Egypt, Yemen and Iraq

• Contribute to the writing of Back to Office Reports, Aide Memoires, Project Concept Notes, Project Appraisal Documents and analytic work, as well as drafting other technical working papers for wider circulations

• Participating in the country missions in Egypt and Yemen

• Coordinating and acting as a liaison between team members in headquarters and Country Offices and their governmental counterparts

• Providing teams with support for preparing briefs, analytical notes, reports, and research projects

• Periodically undertaking other tasks, as requested by the Lead and Senior Private and Financial Sector Specialists/EconomistsSelection CriteriaEssential Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Competencies

• Knowledge of microeconomics and familiarity with PSD and financial sector issues• Proven research skills, as evidenced by writing samples, references and work experienceGeneral Competencies

• Strong analytical and conceptual skills

• Ability to manage and deliver work independently when needed• Ability to effectively provide professional support to senior staff

• Ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments, and adjust to and prioritize a variety of tasks

• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment

• Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to work collaborative within teams and across organizational boundaries to meet unit objectives, and the ability to work effectively with external clients

• Excellent knowledge of English and ArabicMinimum Qualifications/Experience

• Advanced Degree (Masters Degree or above) in field relevant to MENA regional development. Exposure to technical issues relating to financial systems and private sector development such as banking, mortgage finance, microfinance, corporate governance etc

• 2 years relevant experience and/or demonstrated capability in similar work
