Out of focus problems exist in Digicams not because of the long zoom lens itself, but because of the inability of these cams to lock the focus at higher focal lenses. This is usually caused if you experience low contrast photos, or low light conditions where the Exposure value of the cam goes beneath its minimum value (check your camera's catalogue for that value).
Dont forget also that if you exceed the manual focal maginification limit of the lens, you will be doing digital zooming which is achieved through the interpolation of the pixels and not through the zoom lens elements and groups.
The solution is :
1- Use Manual Focusing (if your digital camera ia equipped with that feature..most digital cameras beneath the 6.0 MP resolution does not house that feature...what is your cam's model ?)
2- Keep using Digital zooming to the minimum. Dont use unless you really in deep need of that.
3- Check your Digital camera website for a Firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade is the eminent solution, and most cameras producers launch upgrades to overcome this specific problem. However an upgrade is a bit of a dangerous process that has to be done with caution. Consult a professional before doing that.
