Fellow PYS,
I hope you did have a safe flight back to
your various countries like us.You know, the return
journey was long and tiring for me and i went straight
to bed on arrival. I slept for four days continously.
Can you believe that? It is very true. While on board
the plane as we were returning to Cameroon, my thought
was dominated by memories of you. It dawn on me that
the Ship for World Youth gives substance to one's
fantasy. I came to realise that this programme habours
visions of a brighter future for mankind for it deals
with the inner riches of the soul through fundamental
cultural exchanges among young people from around the
globe in a small but wonderful environment in which
one is bound to love.
So through my mind's eyes, i could see the
realisation of a big dream -A BETTER WORLD HERE AND
NOW- I could see a world that harbours a happy,
cultured, productive and open-minded young people, who
understand that human development is a cooperative and
not a competitive sort of thing. I could also see a
world in which one person's gain must not, if we are
to survive, be another person's loss.
I would want to believe that like me, you
all left the progamme with the spirit of post-creative
and constructive thinking, to set up model communities
based on the best social theory of 'Dignity of life
and peaceful coexistence' and to solicit membership on
that basis.
I strongly believe that the Ship for World
Youth serves as an ideal experiment into a new
culture. The programme makes dull tasks bearable and
lends a luster to the ordinary. I discovered that
during the programme we all left out our utopian
dreams and work for a new and better cultured world as
one people with many minds. As such, we did not only
enrich our individual experiences but also helped in
promoting mutual understanding and friedship among
ourselves by limiting cultural barriers as much as
posssible.
Remember that we were a group of
individuals who came together to seek a close and knit
family that will make us comfortabe. But not for a
single moment did we miss the humour of the contrast
between our goals and our accomplishments. In spite of
our cultural and philosophical differences, we were
sympathetic to each other and lent each other a hand
when we could. Accept my heart felt thanks for your
love and concern shown towards each other during the
programme. In fact, you made me realise that
responsibility is a fact of human society but that
dreams to reality are fundamental to human
existence.Thank you for trying to work out structures
that some day may be patterns for a larger and more
cultivated society.
I will never forget the warm smiles on your
faces and that burning desire that i could read from
the determination expressed in your eyes and gestures
each time i looked at you, to make the programme
successful. I know that you all returned to your
various countries as heros and herions of the 15th
edition of the Ship for World Youth. You all won the
battle for PEACE, LOVE, FRIENDSHIP AND MUTUAL
UNDERSTANDING, as one people with many minds. I am
proud of all of us.
You did have a wonderful day yesterday
celebrating the birth of baby Jesus, didn't you? I had
a very good time with my family and friends. May the
good Lord bless and watch over you.
MERRY CHRISTMAN AND A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW
YEAR.
I love you all,
Veronica (swy 15--Cameroonian
delegation).
